Chromatopia
Colour wields a powerful unconscious influence on our moods, emotions, and behaviours. While we rarely think about the colours that surround us, they deeply impact our mental, psychological, and physical states. Chromatopia by Michael Bond and Antoinette Ferwerda explores our connection with colour and the influence it wields whether we perceive it or not. Raw pigments are without intrinsic value until they go through a transformative process, when the artist recognises their potential and in turn realises their art.
“My work is an extension of me and how I see the world. A simple mark made on my canvas in a specific colour can evoke an emotion or memory.”
Michael Bond
“The composition of my painting directs the colour of my artwork, and my intuition tells me whether it needs to be subdued, loud, moody, or playful.”
Antoinette Ferwerda
